Rumors Abound: Is Amul Set to Acquire Sri Lankan Dairy Farms?
Speculation is on the rise as a Sri Lankan news agency reports that India’s renowned dairy giant, Amul Dairy, may be on the verge of acquiring dairy farms in Sri Lanka. According to the news agency, Sri Lankan MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake has revealed that the necessary cabinet approval has already been sought for this potential acquisition.
Dissanayake stated, “Plans are underway to sell 33 dairy farms owned by the National Livestock Development Board (NLDB), including Milco and Highland.”
While the Sri Lankan side appears to be making strides in this direction, the cooperative powerhouse, Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), commonly known as Amul, has remained tight-lipped on the matter.
As the industry awaits further developments, the prospect of Amul expanding its dairy operations into Sri Lanka adds an intriguing twist to the dairy landscape.
