
Ludhiana: Various contemporary social issues were highlighted during Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University’s ongoing inter-college youth festival on Thursday. The day was dedicated to theatrical events like mime and skit.
As many as 7 teams participated in the mime event and called attention to various pertinent issues such as rape and drug abuse.In the skit event, the participants performed on themes including ‘Save Punjabi language’, and ‘Brain drain’.
All events witnessed participation of students from College of Veterinary Science; College of Dairy Science and Technology; College of Fisheries; College of Animal Biotechnology; Veterinary Science College, Rampura Phul; Veterinary Polytechnic, Kaljharani and Khalsa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Amritsar.
On Friday, the group folk dance (female) event is scheduled to be held at 2pm and the group folk dance (male) at 4pm at the Open Air Theatre, PAU.
Sarvpreet Singh Ghuman, director students’ welfare, said, “The participants performed in a very professional and skilled manner. Their performances mirrored life and revealed the contemporary social, political and environmental issues.”
Ghuman said he wished the artistes would go a long way and take part in inter-varsity youth festival competitions as well.
In the mime competition, College of Dairy Science & Technology team clinched the first position, College of Veterinary Science, Ludhiana, team secured the second position and Khalsa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Amritsar stood third.
In the skit competition, the teams of Khalsa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Amritsar; College of Dairy Science & Technology and College of Animal Biotechnology bagged the first, second and third spots, respectively.
In the light vocal event, Rajdeep Kaur of College of Veterinary Science, Ludhiana, bagged the first position, Jasleen Johal of Khalsa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Amritsar, clinched the second position and Suneha Mandal of College of Fisheries secured the third position.
In the group song (Indian) competition, the teams of College of Fisheries; College of Dairy Science & Technology and College of Veterinary Science, Ludhiana, stood first, second and third, respectively.
