Ahmedabad: India is seeing momentum build in the cooperative sector as its share of global milk production is set to grow by a whopping nine percentage points to 33% by 2030, said Jayen Mehta, managing director of Gujarat Cooperative MilkMarketing Federation (GCMMF). He added that the growth of the cooperative sector is fuelling entrepreneurship in the country.
Speaking at TiECON Ahmedabad 2023, Mehta said, “The story of Amul is the story of India. From 240 litres a day, Amul now procures 300 lakh litres a day. India is the world’s largest milk producer because of the cooperative model. It has empowered farmers and is a great model for women’s empowerment. India is going to be the dairy of the world as our share in global milk production will increase from 24% now to 33% by 2030, with the number of village dairy cooperatives doubling to 4 lakh.”
Jatin Trivedi, president of TiE Ahmedabad, drew parallels between the demands on a marathon runner and the qualities required for entrepreneurial success. He said, “The patience to pace oneself, resilience, focus on staying the course and strength to endure are needed. Like a marathon, the entrepreneurship is not always smooth. It has its hills and valleys.”
More than 700 entrepreneurs, innovators and industry leaders attended TiECON Ahmedabad.
Banchha Nidhi Pani, commissioner of technical education, said, “There is a lot of innovation happening in educational institutions in Gujarat. The Student Startup Innovation Policy is supporting student innovators with capital, mentoring and handholding.”
