Digital Desk: The Greater Guwahati Dairy Farmers’ Association decided to increase the price of milk on Thursday by Rs. 3.50 instead of Rs. 5 after a 15-day discussion about the price hike of milk.
The Greater Guwahati Dairy Farmers’ Association and Brihattar Guwahati Go-Palak Sanstha held a 15-day discussion on the latter’s request to increase the price of milk by Rs. 5, according to sources.
The increase in milk prices comes with a recent rise in the price of cow feed.
However, the dairy farmers’ association decided to raise the price of milk by Rs. 3.50 rather than Rs. 5. With this increase, the price of a litre of milk will be Rs. 56.50.
Earlier, following reports that milk prices will be increased by Rs. 5, wholesale suppliers refused to purchase milk.
The Greater Guwahati Dairy Farmers’ Association then declared that if wholesale suppliers did not buy their milk, they would begin selling it directly to consumers.
