Varanasi: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath inspected the newly-constructed Amul Banas Dairy Plant on Tuesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the plant on Feb 23. To provide a new impetus to development in the Purvanchal region, PM laid the foundation stone on Dec 13, 2021. The project was completed in two years.
CM Yogi and Governor Anandiben Patel will be present at the inaugural function, which will be attended by over 1,00,000 milk producers and farmers of Varanasi and the Purvanchal region. The theme of the program is “Purvanchal ke Vikas me Sahkar Ka Prayas” (efforts of co-operatives in the development of Purvanchal). According to a press statement issued by the dairy on Tuesday, Banas Dairy’s milk operations in UP currently cover 4,600 villages in 47 districts (seven in Purvanchal). Milk procurement will expand to 7,000 villages in 70 districts by next year, including an expansion into 15 new districts in Purvanchal. The target is to reach 2,600 functional Milk Societies by the end of 2025 in Purvanchal (over 600 are currently functional and over 1,300 are already formed). Banas Dairy is currently working with 3.5 lakh milk producers’ families in UP, out of which 58,000 are from Purvanchal and Varanasi. With extensive work in the villages, it will add over two lakh milk producers’ families in UP, of which one lakh will come from Varanasi and other districts of Purvanchal.
In Purvanchal, five chilling centres at Khusipur, Cholapur, Mirzapur, Gazipur, and Dubepur are currently functional, and eight more will be operational by next month. Overall in UP, 29 chilling centres are currently operational, and this number will increase to 50 by the end of 2025. Through this infrastructure, currently over 3 lakh liters per day (LLPD) of milk is being collected in Purvanchal, and this will increase to 7 LLPD by 2024-25. By March 2025, the target is to procure more than 25 LLPD of milk from UP, up from the current level of 19 LLPD. Banas Kashi Sankul is spread over 30 acres of land with a milk processing capacity of 8 LLPD. This plant has been set up with a total project cost of Rs. 622 crores. Towards sustainability, the plant is equipped with a 4 LLPD ETP and a 1 MW Rooftop Solar Plant.
Dairying is essential for raising the income level of small and marginal farmers. Banas Dairy is giving direct employment to 750 people and indirect employment to 81,000 people, including milk producers, through this Varanasi plant. Varanasi’s famous sweets Launglata and Kashi’s Lal Peda will also be hygienically manufactured with automation at this plant and will get national market access under the Amul brand. Single-serve packs for enhanced shelf life, freshness, and consumer convenience are being introduced for various sweets from this plant.
