Gurgaon: Gangster Kaushal, his close aide Amit Dagar and two others have been acquitted in a 2021 murder case by a city court. Kaushal was among the seven people booked for the daylight murder of a dairy owner just 150m from New Colony police station.
Kaushal and Amit will, however, continue to remain in Bhondsi jail in connection with other cases.
One of the accused died during the trial.Sajjan, a sharpshooter of Kaushal gang, and Sanjay — who supplied weapons for the murder — were convicted under the Arms Act. The court acquitted Kaushal and the others in the absence of adequate evidence to connect them to the crime.
Manish (25), a Basai resident who owned a dairy and also ran a tempo rental service, was shot dead by two assailants in Feroz Gandhi Nagar, one of Old Gurgaon’s most crowded and congested areas.
On Feb 22, 2021, Manish had arrived at the house of one of his acquaintances, a lawyer who practices in Gurgaon court, on a two-wheeler to borrow his SUV. He came out of the house with the vehicle’s key a few minutes later.
Manish had just entered the SUV and was about to start its engine when two youths on a bike stopped near him, pulled out guns and started firing indiscriminately. Manish, who sustained 15 bullet injuries all over his body, died on the spot.
During investigation, police found that Kaushal’s gang was involved in the murder, and a chargesheet was filed against Kaushal, Amit, Anil, Deepak, Yoginder, Sajjan and Sanjay Panchal. Yoginder died during the trial.
The special task force (STF) of Haryana police arrested gangster Kaushal — who was hiding abroad after jumping parole in 2016 — in August 2019 from Delhi airport after he was brought to India from Dubai. Amit Dagar was arrested by Gurgaon police in 2018.
Rahul Chouhan, the counsel for Kaushal, said the prosecution was unable to establish any link between Kaushal and the crime.
On Friday, the Gurgaon court acquitted Kaushal, Amit Dagar, Anil and Deepak, while Sajjan was convicted under Section 302 (murder) of IPC and relevant sections of the Arms Act. Sanjay too was convicted under the Arms Act.
