The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) is preparing to introduce four different types of milk in the US market, marking the first time that Amul fresh milk will be available outside India.
MD of GCMMF, Jayen Mehta told PTI, “We have been exporting dairy products for many decades. This is the first time we are launching fresh milk outside India. The GCMMF has tied up with 108-year old cooperative organisation Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA) to launch fresh milk in the US market.”
The renowned dairy brand Amul, known for its tagline ‘Taste of India’, has made its debut on the international market by introducing fresh milk products, marking its entry into the United States.
How Will Amul Operate In The US?
The Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA) will handle milk collection and processing, while the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) will oversee the marketing and branding of Amul fresh milk. The products set to be available in the US market within a week include Amul Taaza, Amul Gold, Amul Shakti, and Amul Slim n Trim.
According to Mehta, “Recipe will be ours. Within one week, Amul Taaza, Amul Gold, Amul Shakti and Amul Slim n Trim will be available in the US market.”
Which US States Will Amul Be Distributed In?
Amul will be available in New York, New Jersey, Chicago, Washington, Dallas and Texas among others. The company’s target demographic includes non-resident Indians (NRIs) and the Asian population, with a strategic emphasis on branding and marketing efforts over the next 3-4 months, stated Jayen Mehta.
“We are expecting a good response from customers,” he said. After milk, the company will also launch milk products like paneer, curd and butter milk in the near future.
GCMMF is currently exporting dairy products to approximately 50 countries. In the fiscal year 2022-23, its turnover reached approximately ₹55,000 crore, marking an 18.5 per cent increase from the previous year.
