Two people with links to the Gogi gang have been recently arrested and one minor was apprehended for participating in a failed firing bid near a Narela businessman’s office on June 4.
According to the police, the three sharpshooters, Sumit Gulia aka Cheeta, 18, Rohit aka Joshi, 24, and the minor, were members of the Gogi gang led by jailed gangsters Kapil Mann and Sampat Nehra.
The affected businessman, who is a property dealer, complained that a young boy attempted to fire from a pistol in front of his office at around 6.30 pm on June 4. The complainant raised an alarm and his security officer also intervened, but the assailant managed to flee with his associate on a bike. This incident happened just two days after the complainant received a WhatsApp call from an international number, wherein a caller demanded Rs 2 crore on behalf of Nehra and Mann and threatened him with dire consequences if the demand was not met.
On June 10, the Special Cell of the Delhi Police received a tip-off that the shooters involved in the Narela incident were hiding near the Shahbad Dairy. Thereafter, a team was constituted and Gulia and the minor were spotted near the bus stand. As the police surrounded the two and asked them to surrender, Gulia took out a pistol and attempted to load it. But both he and the minor were caught and disarmed. One .32-bore pistol and four live cartridges were seized from Gulia.
“One more gang member of this Sampat Nehra-Gogi gang syndicate namely Rohit was arrested on June 12 and a country-made revolver with five live cartridges was seized from his possession,” said Pratiksha Godara, DCP (Special Cell).
Gulia is a second-year graduate student. His father owns a shop dealing in music systems in his native village Badli in Haryana. Rohit, who is from the same village, brought him in contact with Mann and Nehra, the police said.
The police said that Rohit is a school dropout and started working as a helper in a shop in his village. After being involved in a quarrel with neighbours in November 2022, he was sent to judicial custody, where he met Jaimeet aka Monu, who was a member of the Gogi gang.
According to the police, Monu introduced him to Mann, and after getting bail in 2023, he remained in contact with Mann while working as a cab driver. Mann then asked him to recruit minors for the Gogi gang. The minor apprehended for the failed firing bid was one such recruit.
A case has been lodged under Sections 336, 511, 384, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code at the Narela Police Station based on the complaint of the property dealer.
