Minister of Public Works, Highways, and Minor Ports EV Velu distributed dairy cow loans worth Rs. 19.92 lakhs to 20 beneficiaries at a special event organized by Indian Bank in Tiruvannamalai.
The event, which took place at the Indian Bank Regional Office, was part of a larger initiative to provide loans to support dairy farming and boost milk production in the district.
District Collector D Bhaskara Pandian, Tiruvannamalai MP CN Annadurai, and several state and local officials were present at the occasion. Speaking at the event, the Minister emphasized the importance of dairy farming for the rural economy, linking it to the broader Green Revolution. He highlighted that Tiruvannamalai district ranks third in Tamil Nadu in terms of milk production.
Minister Velu referenced India’s leadership in global milk production, largely due to the successful efforts of Dr. Verghese Kurien, the father of the White Revolution. He further noted that there are 7.39 lakh cows in the district, according to the 20th Livestock Census, and the government has been providing robust support to farmers through various veterinary services and financial initiatives.
In total, 2188 dairy cows worth Rs. 10 crore will be distributed to 1094 agricultural beneficiaries under the loan scheme. The minister urged the Indian Bank to extend its reach and support farmers with more loan opportunities in the future.
Indian Bank Regional Manager Arun Pandian, along with government representatives and other officials, also participated in the event.
