Cuttack: Commissionerate police on Monday busted an adulterated milk manufacturing unit in Atada area here and seized 5,560 packets of adulterated milk and 1,240 packets of adulterated curd.
“During the raid, it was found that milk was prepared by mixing skimmed milk powder, chemicals and contaminated water. The manufacturing process was unhygienic and didn’t follow the food safety norms.It was operating without a valid trademark,” a police officer said. “Skimmed milk powder, sodium hydroxide and other chemicals were seized from the site. The milk was released in the market under the brand name of Rohini. The products were marketed in Cuttack, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur,” said additional DCP Anil Mishra.
“There was no chemist and the pasteurisation process was not followed at the unit. No laboratory was also present. We have collected samples and sent them to the laboratory for testing,” he said.
“We have sealed the manufacturing unit. All the machinery have been seized. The owner of the unit was detained and is being interrogated,” added Mishra. TNN
