Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar on Friday dismissed opposition claims that state govt was handing over Mahanand, a venture of Maharashtra state cooperative milk federation Limited, to the national dairy development board based in Gujarat. Pawar said the allegation was “politically driven”.
The opposition has also claimed that resignations of Mahanand directors were taken forcefully. “All the directors of Mahananda have resigned voluntarily. If anyone feels pressured, they should file a complaint directly with the police,” Pawar said.
He added the decision to hand over the management of Mahanand to the NDDB is in the interest of the farmers, and the NDDB has requested financial assistance from state govt as share capital. The salaries of Mahanand staff are pending, he said.
Pawar also said that ahead of the general elections, votes will be sought by claiming that Mumbai will be separated and given to Gujarat, and appealed to his supporters to not fall prey to such appeals. BJP, Pawar’s ally, often faces this accusation and responds in similar manner. Speaking about the recent drug haul by Pune city police, Pawar said, “Such elements should not be spared. As a punishment, such elements should be hanged,” said Pawar.
He also spoke cautiously on the issue of Maratha reservation and said they believe that the poor and the needy should get reservation and that too without disturbing anyone else’s reservation. Pawar, state finance minister, said they had sought Rs 2,261 crore from Union government to tackle drought in state and things will be finalised after a meeting with union home minister Amit Shah.
