From April 3, it will be mandatory for milk producers in Indore to test the milk in front of customers and inform them about the fat and SNF (Solid-Not-Fat) content
Milk vendors mixing water in milk is nothing new. While this adulteration caused inconvenience to customers, it did not have serious health consequences although people complain about the milk being too thin. However, now milk vendors have started adding harmful chemicals and medicines to milk, which can pose serious health risks. In response, the Collector in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore district has issued a new directive.
From April 3, it will be mandatory for milk producers to test the milk in front of customers and inform them about the fat and SNF (Solid-Not-Fat) content. All milk sellers and dairy operators will be required to keep a fat-measuring device in their shops.
This decision was made to tackle the increasing incidents of milk adulteration, where poisonous substances are being mixed into the milk.
The goal is to curb adulteration and prevent the spread of infectious diseases. The order has been issued under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Act 2023. If milk producers fail to comply with the new rules, they will face fines.
They will be required to display the fat content and SNF levels, using a fat-measuring device that reveals these details as soon as the milk is poured. Milk suppliers who deliver to homes must provide this information on the packaging.
