Amul’s doodle on ‘90 hours per week’ controversy.
For the last few days, all everyone has been talking about is ‘staring’ at their ‘wives’ and working for ‘70 to 90 hours per week’! Confused? Well, you shouldn’t be if you are from India, because all the Indian headlines are currently being dominated by a remark by Larsen & Toubro (L&T) chairman SN Subrahmanyan, which he casually made while reportedly interacting with his employees. Joining the bandwagon, it seems like dairy brand Amul has become the latest one to comment on the same. For those not aware, Subrahmanyan expressed his take on working on Sundays, as per which, he believes that people should work on Sundays and should work for 90 hours per week. Yes, a notch higher than what Indian businessman NR Narayana Murthy said; people should work ‘70 hours per week’.
The matter only gained more attention when Subrahmanyan asked about the need to work on Mondays by saying, “What do you do sitting at home? How long can you stare at your wife? How long can the wives stare at their husbands? Get to the office and start working,”
“I regret I am not able to make you work on Sundays. If I could, I would. I work on Sundays,” he was heard saying earlier, in the same video which went viral. As soon as the remark went viral, many began to share their take. From business tycoon Anand Mahindra to entrepreneur Anupam Mittal- many shared their views. Amid these views, Amul chose to take a unique take with its witty doodle. Sharing a post on the same, Amul’s doodle talked about ‘staring bread’ all the time!
The post was shared on X (formerly Twitter), by the official handle of Amul. The post was shared yesterday and pulled more than 7K views from people.
