Vadodara: The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets the Amul brand, has partnered with one of the largest retailers in the U.S., Costco, to offer Amul fresh milk to the Indian diaspora and American consumers.
On Tuesday, Amul Gold made its debut in mainstream U.S. retail, with gallon packs (3.78 liters each) now available on the shelves of Costco Wholesale. “It is a proud moment for us as we have entered mainstream retail in the U.S.,” said Jayen Mehta, managing director of GCMMF.
“Our unique 6% fat formulation of Amul Gold has attracted not just the Indian diaspora but also American consumers,” Mehta noted. “Since we launched Amul fresh milk in May, it has been well received. It was previously available at all major supermarket chains and grocery stores serving the Indian community. With Costco being one of the largest retail chains, we have strategically launched Amul products to ensure wide availability across the U.S. market.”
Amul has started supplying Amul Gold packs to Costco stores on the East Coast, with plans to expand distribution to all of the approximately 750 stores operated by the global retailer. The largest milk cooperative in India will also introduce other dairy products, such as curd, buttermilk, and fresh cream, in the U.S. to meet the growing demand from the Indian diaspora.
Earlier this year, the dairy giant entered the U.S. market by collaborating with the Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA), America’s tenth-largest dairy cooperative, marking Amul’s first venture outside India. DeshGujarat
