KARNAL: The Annual Scientific Advisory Committee meeting of Krishi Vigyan Kendra was held on Friday at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra of the ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), Karnal.
Dheer Singh, Director and Vice-Chancellor of NDRI, emphasized that the Krishi Vigyan Kendra should establish contact with every village in the Karnal district and ensure that all training is shared with the public.
He also highlighted the need for officials from all research institutes, universities, and district-level departments in Karnal to collaborate and develop a concrete action plan aimed at making sectors like agriculture, animal husbandry, dairy, fisheries, etc., profitable.
Singh mentioned that the Krishi Vigyan Kendra and district-level agricultural departments, in collaboration with farmers, should identify researchable points and present them to research institutes for technology evaluation. He also noted the significant contribution of the dairy sector to GDP.
A.K. Singh, Joint Director, Academics, suggested that the Krishi Vigyan Kendra should create technical videos on various crops and dairy farming, making them accessible via the website.
R.K. Yadav, Director of the Central Soil Salinity Research Institute, proposed that technology developed by his institute should be included for dissemination in the salt-affected areas of the Karnal district.
Center Chairman, Pankaj Kumar Saraswat, presented the annual progress report for 2023 and the action plan for 2024.
Pankaj highlighted the farmer field research, first-line demonstrations, capacity building, development programs for farmers and stakeholders, crop residue management schemes, natural farming schemes, and agricultural drone schemes.
Anuj Kumar, Principal Scientist at the Indian Wheat and Barley Research Institute in Karnal, recommended including climate-resilient wheat varieties developed by his institute in the crop garden. This would allow farmers to evaluate these varieties themselves.
Pawan Singh, Head of the Department, gave suggestions for work in animal management and production.
Pankaj Kumar Saraswat stated that his Krishi Vigyan Kendra is focused on producing more seeds to ensure that farmers have access to high-quality seeds at reasonable prices. He reported that in 2023, a total of 2,535 farmers participated in 46 training programs, which enhanced their knowledge and efficiency.
