Varanasi: The Banas Dairy, which is slated to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his two-day visit to Varanasi on February 22 and 23, is all set to bring sustainability through a circular economy in the entire Purvanchal (eastern UP).
Banas Dairy is not only working towards dairy production but also focusing on agricultural productivity to double the farmers’ income. The chairman of Banas Dairy, Shankar Chaudhary, said that it aims to provide farmers with income from milk and also enhance their earnings by adding value to every product grown on their farms.
“Milk producers and farmers not only sell milk and agricultural products to Banas Dairy but they are also the customers for various value-added products and services produced by the dairy. This creates a circular economy where both the farmers and Banas Dairy benefit. Banas Dairy only needs to reach out to their farmers for the sale of their products as they already have trust in the quality and price of the products,” he said. B
anas Dairy has initiated several activities in the direction of sustainability. It purchases raw materials such as milk, honey, agricultural products, cow dung from dairy producers and farmers. In return, it sells value-added products such as paneer, ice cream, wheat flour, cattle feed, organic fertilisers to dairy producers and farmers. It also undertakes activities leading to sustainability through a circular economy such as tree plantation, soil conservation, water conservation, and carbon neutrality. Banas Dairy provides veterinary care, education, hospitals, retail stores, and other services to dairy producers and farmers.
Chaudhary said that the effort towards sustainability through a circular economy from the Banas-Kashi complex to Purvanchal is the beginning of a new era. The farmers in Gujarat have prospered today through this model of circular economy. The Prime Minister’s vision is to implement this model in Purvanchal also to benefit the farmers. Chaudhary said the journey through cooperation will bring the benefits of value addition in agriculture and cow waste management to the lives of farmers.
