Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Unveils TeacherApp to Empower EducatorsUnion Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Ministry of Education (MoE), launched “The TeacherApp”, an innovative digital platform aimed at transforming education in India by equipping teachers with advanced skills for 21st-century classrooms. The launch event was held in New Delhi, Delhi.
- The app is developed by the Bharti Airtel Foundation, the philanthropic arm of New Delhi, Delhi, based Bharti Enterprises.
- The Theme of the event is “Elevating Teachers, Elevating India.” It highlights the importance of empowering educators with the skills, knowledge, and tools required to meet the evolving demands of modern education.

1st BRIC Foundation Day Celebration with launch of “One Day One Genome”
The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council (BRIC) under the Ministry of Science & Technology(MoS&T) introduced the ‘One Day One Genome’ initiative to showcase the enormous microbial potential of India.
- The launch was announced by Amitabh Kant, India’s Group of 20(G-20) Sherpa and Former Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of National Institution for Transforming India(NITI) Aayog on the 1st Foundation day of BRIC on November 9, 2024 held at National Institute of Immunology (NII), New Delhi.
i.The initiative coordinated by West Bengal(WB) based BRIC-National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (BRIC-NIBMG), an institute of the Department of Biotechnology aims to release a fully annotated bacteriological genome isolated in the country
ii.The initiative highlights the unique bacterial species found in our country and emphasises their critical roles in environment, agriculture and human health.
Bharat NCX 2024 inaugurated to strengthen India’s Cyber Defense
In November 2024, the Bharat National Cyber Security Exercise (Bharat NCX 2024), a landmark initiative to fortify India’s cybersecurity resilience, was inaugurated at a ceremony organized by the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) in collaboration with Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) in New Delhi(Delhi).
- The 12-day exercise runs from November 18 to November 29, 2024 aim towards preparing India’s cybersecurity professionals and leadership to tackle evolving threats with advanced cyber defense, incident response capabilities, and strategic decision-making.
- The Bharat Chief Information Security Officer(CISO’s) Conclave and Bharat Cybersecurity Startup Exhibition also inaugurated Bharat NCX 2024.
i.The exercise includes immersive training on cyber defense and incident response, live-fire simulations of cyberattacks on Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) systems and collaborative platforms for government and industry stakeholders.
ii.A Strategic Decision-Making Exercise will bring together senior management from across sectors to simulate decision-making in a national-level cyber crisis, enhancing their ability to respond to high-pressure situations with strategic acumen.
iii.The Bharat Cybersecurity Startup Exhibition showcases innovative solutions from Indian startups, emphasizing their role in enhancing the nation’s cybersecurity infrastructure.
Arjun Vajpai Became 1st Indian to Conquer Mount Shishapangma in China
In November 2024, Arjun Vajpai, the youngest person to climb Mount (Mt.) Everest, achieved a historic milestone by summiting Mount Shishapangma in China, his eighth peak above 8,000 meters(m).
- This remarkable feat makes him the 1st Indian to summit Mt. Shishapangma, the fastest to ascend it (a Base Camp to summit and back in under 72 hours), and the first Indian to climb eight 8,000m peaks.
i.Arjun Vajpai began his pursuit of all 14 of the world’s 8,000m peaks at age 16 and now he is on track to become the first Indian to complete this extraordinary achievement.
- Now he summited 8 of the 14 tallest mountains on Earth.
ii.He was only 30 years old when he set the Guinness World Record for being the youngest person to climb Mt. Everest (2010) and Mt. Lhotse (2011) and also holds the record for the fastest ascent of an 8,000m peak in China.
iii.His mountaineering legacy includes summits of Everest (2010), Lhotse (2011), Manaslu (2011), Makalu (2016), Cho Oyu (2016), Kanchenjunga (2018), and Annapurna (2023). Despite setbacks, including a serious injury, Vajpai’s resilience continues to inspire India.

Highlights of 2nd India-CARICOM Summit held in Georgetown, GuyanaOn 20th November 2024, Narendra Modi, Prime Minister (PM) of India and Dickon Mitchell, PM of Grenada and the current chairperson of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) jointly chaired the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit in Georgetown, Guyana.
- The CARICOM Summit was hosted by President of Guyana, Irfaan Ali.
Note: The 3rd India-CARICOM Summit is set to be hosted in India.
Points to note:
i.PM Modi offered assistance to CARICOM countries in seven key areas. The key areas will promote the close bonds of friendship between India and CARICOM.
ii.Union Minister S. Jaishankar, Ministry of External Affairs(MEA) and Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs of Trinidad and Tobago signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the presence of PM Modi and Keith Rowley.
iii.Two Dornier HAL-228 aircraft were officially commissioned into the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Air Corps at a ceremony held at Air Station London, Timehri, Guyana. The aircraft were showcased on the sidelines of the summit.

RBI Buys net USD 8.52 billion in 1st half of FY25In the first half of the Fiscal Year 2024-2025 (April-September 2025/H1FY25), the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in its ‘RBI Bulletin – November 2024’ reported a net purchase of USD 8.52 Billion in foreign currency assets as compared to USD 17.68 Billion in H1FY24.
- As of September 2024, the RBI had bought a net USD 32.27 billion, including USD 9.6 billion in September.
RBI to Launch Affordable Cloud Platform
The RBI plans to launch its first local cloud storage service in 2025, aimed at providing affordable cloud solutions for financial institutions and competing with global providers like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud.
RBI Imposes Fine on RBL Bank for KYC Violations
The RBI in exercise of its powers conferred under the provisions of Section 47A(1)(c) read with Section 46(4)(i) of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 has imposed a fine of Rs 61.40 lakh on RBL Bank Limited for failing to comply with Know Your Customer (KYC) regulations.

MML Launches Loan Disbursement Program in Partnership with SBI to Support Rural EntrepreneursKochi (Kerala)-based Muthoot Microfin Limited (MML), a microfinance institution, has commenced disbursing loans through its co-lending partnership with the State Bank of India (SBI), India’s largest commercial bank, headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
- This initiative aims to support rural entrepreneurs, enhance financial inclusion, and promote self-sufficiency in both rural and semi-urban areas.
Key Points:
i.Under the collaboration, the SBI has approved a total loan limit of Rs 500 crore, which will be disbursed in installments of Rs 100 crore.
- Loans ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 3 lakh will be provided to eligible customers, with a primary focus on members of Joint Liability Groups (JLGs) involved in agricultural and allied activities, as well as other income-generating initiatives.
ii.By collaborating with SBI, MML can offer loans at lower interest rates, making them more accessible and affordable for borrowers
iii.Through this collaboration, MML, which currently operates in 20 states and 369 districts across India, plans to expand the co-lending initiative nationwide.
Additional Info:
i.In 2nd Quarter (Q2) of Financial Year 2024-25 (FY25), MML’s net profit (NP) dropped 44% to Rs 61.6 crore, down from Rs 110 crore in the same period last year, due to challenges in the microfinance sector and higher employee costs.
ii.The gross non-performing assets (NPA) ratio increased to 2.7% at the end of September 2024, up from 2.3% during the same period last year.

ONGC and NTPC Forge 50:50 Renewable Energy Joint Venture
In November 2024, NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has partnered with ONGC Green Limited (OGL), a subsidiary of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited(ONGC), to establish ONGC NTPC Green Private Limited (ONGPL).
- This 50:50 Joint Venture(JV) aims to accelerate the development of Renewable Energy (RE) projects.
- ONGPL will focus on Greenfield RE projects, asset acquisitions, and feasibility studies for offshore wind energy.
i.ONGPL will venture into various renewable energy and new energy opportunities including solar and wind energy, both onshore and offshore, and green molecules such as green hydrogen, green ammonia, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), and green methanol.
ii.It also plans to explore storage solutions, e-mobility initiatives, and Environmental and Social Governance(ESG)-compliant projects.
iii.ONGPL will cater to renewable energy needs for OGL, NGEL, and their affiliates while exploring domestic and international RE asset acquisitions.
Note: NTPC Green Energy Limited is gearing up for its Rs 10,000 crore Initial Public Offering(IPO) , further boosting its renewable energy ambitions.

In November 2024, Harbhajan Singh, former Indian cricketer, was appointed as Dubai Sports Council(DSC)’s Sports Ambassador to promote sports in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates(UAE).
- The announcement was made in the presence, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai.
i.Along with Harbhajan Singh, Khabib Nurmagomedov(Russian Ultimate Fighting Championship(UFC) Champion), Sania Mirza(former Indian Tennis player), and Patrice Evra (French Footballer) were appointed as Sports Ambassadors of DSC.
ii.Harbhajan Singh, has scored 711 wickets in international cricket which includes 417 in Tests and 269 in One-Day Internationals(ODI).

India Exports Pinaka Weapon Systems to ArmeniaOn November 24 2024, the first batch of the Indian manufactured and the most indigenously developed Pinaka Multi-Barrel Rocket Launchers (MBRL) were exported to Armenia.
- In 2022, Armenia and India signed a contract worth Rs 2,000 crore for the supply of rocket launchers.The Indian side confirmed that Armenia had ordered 3 models of Pinaka rocket systems, which were to be transported from the New Delhi (Capital of India) to Yerevan (Capital of Armenia) by 2024.
- Armenia is one of 3 largest buyers of Indian weapons and equipment along with the (United States) US and France.
- Pinaka rockets are manufactured by Solar Industry’s Economic Explosives Limited(EEL), based in Nagpur, and Munitions India Limited(MIL), a government-owned enterprise.
About Pinaka Multi-Barrel Rocket Launchers (MBRL):
i.MBRL was designed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), a laboratory of the DRDO aimed at providing the army with firepower superiority that would reduce casualties to soldiers in war.
ii.It was first used during the Kargil War, where it successfully neutralised Pakistan Army positions.
iii.India simultaneously delivered two types of defense equipment to Armenia: DRDO-developed rocket launchers and the Akash air defense missile system, showcasing its commitment to strengthening Armenia’s defense capabilities.
Features:
- It consists of a multi tube launcher vehicle, a replenishment-cum-loader vehicle, a replenishment vehicle and a command post vehicle.
- The Pinaka rocket launchers are advanced weapon systems with variants capable of striking targets at distances exceeding 80 km.
- It has two pods containing 6 rockets each and can neutralise an area of 700 × 500 square metres (m) within 48 seconds.
- The launcher system is supported on 4 hydraulically actuated outriggers at the time of firing.
- The system is mounted on a Tatra truck for mobility.
- Pinaka MBRL can launch 12 high explosive rockets in 44 seconds (s).

NASA partners with Microsoft For Earth Copilot AI to Simplify Access to Complex Earth Data
In November 2024, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) partnered with Microsoft to develop the Earth Copilot, a custom Artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot designed to respond to users’ queries related to Earth with easy-to-understand data.
- The collaboration aims to transform how users can search, discover, and analyse Nasa’s geospatial data.
- It is part of NASA’s Transform to Open Science initiative, which seeks to democratize access to over 100 petabytes of satellite imagery and Earth science data.
i.The Earth Copilot will use natural language processing to simplify access to NASA data. This allows users to interact with NASA’s data repository using plain language queries.
ii.NASA collaborated with Microsoft to create a proof of concept model using Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform and AI capabilities.
iii.The Earth Copilot chatbot will simplify the process, making the data more simplified and accessible to scientists, educators, policymakers, and the general public.

Koima: A new genus of freshwater fish discovered in Western GhatsIn November 2024, A team of researchers have discovered Koima, a new genus of freshwater fish endemic to the Western Ghats. This genus includes 2 known species – Mesonoemacheilus remadevii and Nemacheilus monilis, which were previously assigned under the genus Nemacheilus.
i.The fish named Mesonoemacheilus remadevii and Nemacheilus monilis are now renamed as Koima remadevii and Koima monilis respectively. Both species are found in the tributaries of the Cauvery river.
- The research was published in the leading international taxonomy journal Zootaxa.
ii.A team of botanists , led by scientist L. Rasingam, from the Botanical Survey of India (BSI)’s Deccan Regional Centre in Hyderabad(Telangana), has identified a new flower species “Dicliptera srisailamica” in the Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve in the Eastern Ghats of Andhra Pradesh(AP) and Telangana. The new species was named after the temple town of Srisailam.
- This new species belongs to the Acanthaceae family, represented globally by 223 known species.

Australian Swimmer & 14-Time Olympic Medalist Emma McKeon announces RetirementOn November 25 2024, Emma Jennifer McKeon, (30), Australian swimmer and Olympic medalist, announced her retirement from competitive swimming. She won a gold medal in the 4 x 100 metre (m) freestyle relay in the 2024 Paris Games. It was her final Olympics.
- Emma McKeon holds the Australian record of 14 Olympic medals across Rio 2016, the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Games, with six Olympic gold medals, three silver medals and five bronze medals.
- She is second only to American female Olympian Katie Ledecky(14 Olympic medals – 9 Gold) in terms of Olympic swimming gold medals won.

i.Emma McKeon specializes in freestyle and butterfly races of 200 meters(m) or less.
ii.She competed at the Olympic Games Rio 2016 and won 4 medals(1 Gold, 2 silver and 1 Bronze).
- In 2016 Olympics, with Emma McKeon and David David McKeon becoming the first brother and sister to swim for Australia at the same Games in 56 years.
iii.She won 7-medals( 4 Gold medals and 3 Bronze medals) at Tokyo 2020.
- With this, she became the 1st Female Swimmer and the 2nd woman in history to win 7 medals in a single Olympics.
iv.McKeon’s 11 Olympic medals overall broke the previous Australian record of nine from Ian Thorpe and Leisel Jones over the course of their careers.
- In 2022 she was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM), and in 2023 she was named Gold Coast Young Australian of the Year.

National Constitution Day “Samvidhan Divas” 2024 – November 26National Constitution Day also known as ‘Samvidhan Divas’, is annually observed across India on 26th November to commemorate the adoption of the Indian Constitution in 1949 by the constituent Assembly of India.26 November 2024 marks the 75th Anniversary of adopting the Constitution of India.
- A commemorative coin and stamp were released to mark the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of India .
- Two books titled “Making of the Constitution of India: A Glimpse“ and “Making of the Constitution of India & its Glorious Journey“ were launched.
- A booklet dedicated to the Art of the Constitution of India was also unveiled, along with the Constitution of India in both language of Sanskrit and Maithili.
- The theme of this year’s National Constitution Day is “Humara Samvidhan, Humara Swabhimaan.”

i.On 19th November 2015, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJ&E) announced that the Government of India (GoI) would celebrate the 26th November of every year as ‘Constitution Day’ to promote constitutional values among citizens.
ii.2015 marked the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, chairman of the drafting committee of the Indian Constitution. Previously this day was celebrated as Law Day.
- He is known as the Father of the Indian Constitution for his pivotal role in its drafting.
iii.The first-ever Constitution Day was observed on 26 November 2015.

National Milk Day 2024 – November 26National Milk Day is annually observed across India on 26th November to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr Verghese Kurien, “Father of the White Revolution in India”.

i.National Milk Day was jointly initiated by the Indian Dairy Association (IDA), National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and 22 other State-Level Milk Federations in 2014.
ii.The first ever National Milk Day was observed on 26th November 2014.

World Sustainable Transport Day 2024 – November 26The United Nations (UN’s) World Sustainable Transport Day (WSTD) was observed on 26 November to highlight the importance of safe, affordable, accessible, and sustainable transport for economic growth, better well-being, and enhanced international cooperation and trade.
- 26th November 2024 Marks 2nd observance of WSTD
- The annual observance was established to address the impact of transport on climate change and the global inequality in transportation options.
Background:
i.On 16th May 2023, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted the resolution A/RES/77/286 titled “Strengthening the Links between all Modes of Transport to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)” and proclaimed the 26 November of every year as the WSTD.
ii.The first World Sustainable Transport Day (WSTD) was observed on 26th November 2023.

Chhattisgarh Launches ‘Bijli Sakhi Yojana’ to Empower Women in Jashpur DistrictThe Chhattisgarh government launched the ‘Bijli Sakhi Yojana’ to empower women in the tribal-dominated Jashpur district and support the electricity department in meter reading tasks in remote villages.
- This pilot project, introduced by Chief Minister (CM) of Chhattisgarh Vishnu Deo Sai, trains women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to take on the responsibility of meter reading in areas the department had difficulty accessing.
About Bijli Sakhi Yojana:
i.Under the scheme, 21 women were selected, trained, and appointed as ‘Bijli Sakhis‘, with each woman earning Rs 4,000-6,000 per month for their work. ii.The initiative not only provides economic empowerment, enabling them to earn an additional Rs 50,000-60,000 annually, but also supports the Central Government vision to uplift women to become ‘Lakhpati Didis‘.
- For each meter reading, Bijli Sakhis receive Rs 12.
iii.This program helps bridge the gap in meter reading in 21 villages, benefiting both the electricity department and the women involved.
iv.By empowering these women, the scheme offers a sustainable income source while contributing to the development of the region.
