Kolhapur: Dairies in Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara districts are making major efforts to ensure that milk collection from dairy farmers is not hampered by the ongoing downpour.
More than 120 roads in these three districts have been shut due to waterlogging and many villages in the ghat areas have become inaccessible.
Arun Dongale, the chairman of the Kolhapur District Cooperative Milk Dairy (popularly known as Gokul Dairy), said, “We have alternative routes marked to reach the villages. Milk collection has not yet been affected, but this may change if the rain continues, the rivers start flooding and the villages become disconnected. The rural centre operators are in touch with our van operators.” Nearly 95% of the milk produced in these districts is sent to Mumbai and Pune. TNN
