Vadodara: Kuldipsinh Raulji, a prominent politician from Savli and a director at Baroda Dairy, was booked for wrongful confinement and threats by the manager of a petrol pump he operates. The manager, Viral Chauhan, lodged a complaint at the Desar police station on Friday night, alleging that Raulji suspected him of misappropriating accounts at the fuel station.
Chauhan stated that the fuel station, Vishwa Petrol Pump, located in Varnoli village of Desar taluka, is largely managed by Raulji.
Raulji allegedly visited the petrol pump on June 21 with his accountant and requested the account books. They examined the books until late at night and then alleged misappropriation. Raulji instructed the staff of the petrol pump, including Chauhan and four fillers, to be present on the morning of June 22.
On June 22, the staff was taken to a location behind the petrol station and accused of misappropriating Rs 60 lakh. The staff members, who denied the allegations, were threatened. Raulji became more furious as they maintained their denial and started hurling abuses at them. Following this, Chauhan was confined at the petrol pump for four hours, and Raulji, along with another manager and Chauhan, examined the accounts. However, the discrepancies remained unresolved. Chauhan suggested to Raulji that the discrepancies might be due to the dairy election last year when many vehicles were refueled at Raulji’s request
Despite this, Raulji continued to threaten Chauhan, who then took responsibility for the misappropriation. He was asked to return on June 23, and the photographs and Aadhar cards of Chauhan and the four fillers were collected. They were allegedly forced to sign stamp papers stating they owed money and were threatened not to discuss the matter with anyone. The staff was told to refund the money within four months, and Raulji began calling Chauhan for recovery this month. Fed up with the threats, Chauhan approached the police.
Raulji has switched parties twice in the recent past. Initially with the BJP, he joined the Congress in 2022 ahead of the assembly elections. He was granted a ticket against BJP strongman Ketan Inamdar from the Savli assembly constituency. Inamdar won the elections convincingly. However, Raulji returned to the saffron fold in January this year. He was also made the in-charge of the Dabhoi assembly segment during the Lok Sabha polls.
