More than 2.7 crore people received treatments in Mohalla Clinics across Delhi and more than 10 lakh tests were conducted last year, said Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal while inaugurating five new Mohalla clinics in the capital Tuesday.
While one clinic each was launched in Keshopur Sabzi Mandi, Kalkaji Market and Govindpuri, Shahbad Dairy area got two such clinics – at Nirankari Bhawan and a women-only Mahila Mohalla Clinic at the Community Centre.
While inaugurating the clinic at Keshopur Sabzi Mandi, Kejriwal said that in the year 2021-22, approximately 1.82 crore patients sought treatments in these Mohalla Clinics while the number stood at 1.50 crore the previous year.
He said that the clinic at Keshopur Sabzi Mandi is dedicated to mandi workers who are forced to go to the hospitals and wait in long queues.
“Hospitals are always crowded, so we thought why not open ‘small-scale hospitals’ in the form of Mohalla Clinics in each colony and ward of Delhi? The first Mohalla Clinic was constructed in the slums of Pitampura. It received sincere accolades from the people and produced magnificent results. People around this Mohalla clinic were really happy because if they felt minor sickness they went there and got the treatment for free. The Mohalla Clinics have air-conditioned rooms, the doctor treats (the patient) thoroughly, lab tests are free, X-ray is free in the nearby hospital, and all the medicines are free. People were seriously happy,” he said. He said the clinic is not just for the poor and the underprivileged, adding they were in demand even among people from the affluent society.
Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj and Environment Minister Gopal Rai were also present on the occasion.
