The operationalization of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) has sparked a revolutionary change in milk transportation between Delhi National Capital Region (NCR) and Gujarat’s dairy co-operatives. The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) has successfully reduced transit times for milk tank wagons, making the transportation process faster and more cost-effective. The Millennium Milk trains, originating from Gujarat’s New Palanpur station, now experience a remarkable 37.23% reduction in travel time, covering the journey to Palwal in Haryana in just 14.49 hours, as compared to the previous 23.29 hours. This innovation has significantly streamlined milk transport, meeting the daily demands of Delhi NCR through efficient collaboration between the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor and the Indian Railways.
The Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) has emerged as a transformative link connecting the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR) to the dairy co-operatives of Gujarat, offering an expedited and cost-effective avenue for the transportation of milk. Since its commencement in June of this year, the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) has been instrumental in facilitating the seamless movement of milk trucks within the Delhi NCR region.
The operationalization of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), spanning from New Dadri in Uttar Pradesh to Sanand near Ahmedabad in Gujarat, has yielded remarkable advantages in the transportation of milk tank wagons. The DFCCIL has announced that this development has led to a significant enhancement in speed, resulting in a remarkable reduction in transit time. This reduction has led to a more streamlined and dependable transport of vital commodities, as highlighted in a recent statement by the DFCCIL.
The transit time for Millennium Milk trains transporting products from Banas Dairy, based in New Palanpur station of Gujarat, to Palwal in Haryana – a journey spanning approximately 855 kilometres – has witnessed a substantial decrease from 23.29 hours to an impressive 14.49 hours. This remarkable improvement, achieved through the implementation of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, is a testament to the efficiency and effectiveness of this modern transport infrastructure.
During the month of July 2023 alone, this advancement translated to an astounding 37.23% reduction in travel time. The Milk trains, now originating from New Palanpur on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, traverse the corridor until New Prithla in Haryana. From there, they transition to the Indian Railways alignment before concluding their journey at the Hind Terminals Multi Modal Logistics Park in Palwal.
Notably, a significant portion of the milk requirements for the Delhi NCR region is met by dairy plants situated in the state of Gujarat. Among these, Banas Dairy and Mehsana Dairy, based around the Palanpur area, contribute by supplying a substantial daily quantity of 35 lakh litres of milk. The Indian Railways, leveraging the deployment of Rail Milk tanks within a dedicated circuit, efficiently undertakes the task of transporting milk between Palanpur in Gujarat and the Delhi NCR area.
In summary, the introduction of the Dedicated Freight Corridor has fostered a closer connection between Delhi NCR and Gujarat’s dairy co-operatives. This advancement has not only expedited the transportation of milk but has also led to substantial reductions in transit time, ensuring the smooth movement of essential goods. The collaboration between the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor and the Indian Railways has paved the way for an efficient and reliable transportation network, bringing forth positive implications for both regions.
