
The milk production in India increased by 3.78 per cent to 239.30 million tonnes during 2023-24, according to the Basic Animal Husbandry Statistics 2024 that was released by Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, on Tuesday.
India’s milk production stood at 230.58 million tonnes in the 2022-23 financial year. While India maintains its top rank in the world, with the most production; the growth in milk production has slowed in the last two fiscals.
The milk production increased by 3.83 per cent in 2022-23 and 5.77 per cent in 2021-22.
According to the report, the top five milk producing states are Uttar Pradesh (16.21 per cent), Rajasthan (14.51 per cent), Madhya Pradesh (8.91 per cent), Gujarat (7.65 per cent), and Maharashtra (6.71 per cent). They together contribute 53.99 per cent of total milk production in the country, it said.
The per-capita availability of milk stood at 471 grams per day during 2023-24, as per the report.
According to the report, the total egg production in India increased by 33 per cent to 142.77 billion in 2023-24.
