Ranchi: Shilpi Neha Tirkey, the newly appointed minister of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Cooperation department, on Monday announced hike in ncentive to milk farmers by Rs two per litre of milk to boost production and increase in farmers’ income.
She said, “Currently, state gives an incentive of Rs 3 per litre to milk producers affiliated to the Jharkhand Milk Federation, which churns out milk and allied products under brand Medha. We have decided to increase it by Rs 2. Hence, now farmers will get Rs 5 per litre of milk given to the JMF.”
She added that the increased amount will be provided from the current fiscal year of 2024-25. “This decision has already secured cabinet approval,” she noted.
She also held a meeting with departmental secretary Abu Bakr Siddique and other officials on monday following which formal announcement was made. Talking to reporters, she said, “I have also started departmental reviews to go through the schemes, and the status of their implementation and directed officials to work proactively for the cause of farmers and overall agri sector’s upliftment.”
Officials of Jharkhand Milk Federation (JMF) on the other hand said that the decision will directly benefit 60,000 farmers and their families who are associated with them. On an average, JMF contributes 2 lakh litres of milk daily across its dairy plants in the state.
