Gurgaon: MCG is planning to develop an Atal Park and Atal Smriti Kendra in Dharampur village. The project will include a library, biodiversity park, tracks, biogas plants, and dairy facilities. It will also feature a statue of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
A consultancy firm will be selected to develop the blueprint and cost estimates for the park and memorial, honouring the former PM.
While MCG has identified 18 acres in the village for this project, the final land allocation will be determined after the consultancy firm submits the project drawings and design specifications.
“We have floated a tender to hire a firm to prepare a comprehensive design and detailed project report to establish a park and memorial honouring the former PM. The project will be initiated soon after the DPR is submitted,” said an MCG official.
Officials said that the announcement of the park and memorial is likely to be made soon by CM Nayab Singh Saini.
The city has around 1,100 parks under the civic body’s jurisdiction, out of which 90% are maintained by the RWAs. The civic body pays these associations Rs 4.2 per square metre as the maintenance cost.
In 2016, another cultural complex, the city’s equivalent of India Habitat Centre (IHC) in Delhi, was announced. Conceived in 2015, the project was assigned five acres of land in Sector 53. In 2016, then-CM Manohar Lal Khattar formally announced the project and after three years, it got administrative approval from the Haryana govt. The cost of development was fixed at Rs 194.45 crore. However, nine years later, the project has not yet seen the light of day.
