Mumbai: CM Eknath Shinde on Thursday announced that a separate law would be enacted for strict action against those adulterating milk.
“A separate state law should be passed, stricter than the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act, to prevent the adulteration of milk and milk products. A recommendation will be made to the Centre to register a non-bailable case against food adulterants,” he said.
He directed the FDA and dairy development department to implement a joint campaign against milk adulterants in the state and take strict action against them.
“Food adulteration is a serious matter. It has a significant impact on the health of children, in particular. Chronic diseases like cancer also affect many people. Therefore, stricter action than MPDA should be taken against adulterers. Efforts should be made by both central and state government agencies to take effective action against food adulteration and the adulteration of milk and dairy products. For this, both departments will be supported to provide the necessary infrastructure and manpower. The Centre will be pursued for up-to-date laboratories, equipment, and mobile labs,” Shinde said.
