Mumbai: Legislative Council members were unanimous in their demand that the govt quarters of the Dairy Development Dept at Worli be demolished and cluster redevelopment be taken up on the plot.
The issue of cluster redevelopment was raised by MLCs Sunil Shinde and Milind Narvekar of the Shiv Sena (UBT). Shinde said, like the BDD chawls and the govt quarters at Bandra, the govt should consider cluster redevelopment at Worli. “Not only will govt employees get flats, housing can be created for ministers and an additional housing stock will also be available,” he said.
The minister for dairy development, responding to the questions raised by members during question hour, said of the 16 buildings, two were demolished and the others were being repaired and maintained.
Save said that the govt has no policy to provide free houses to dairy employees, but since the buildings in Worli colony are dilapidated, the govt residences available in the supervisory and labour colonies in Worli have been made available as an alternative facility to the employees in the building.
