New Delhi. According to a report by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), over 500 million poor people depend primarily on livestock, and many of them are small and marginal dairy farmers. These farmers depend on dairy farming for their daily livelihood, but due to lack of technology and modern equipment, this sector has been affected to a great extent. After carefully studying the dairy ecosystem over the years, MooFarm was launched in 2019. The idea was to enhance the profitability of farmers through intervention in three critical areas of dairy farming: input (cattle+feed), output (milk) and advisory services. With a team of young professionals and visionary entrepreneurs, MooFarm is successfully scaling its operations and continuously working towards revolutionizing this sector and bringing unprecedented innovations in the industry. This sector also plays a vital role in achieving food security, reducing global poverty, generating employment opportunities for women and providing regular source of income for rural households. Furthermore, in developing economies, landless and poor farmers are actively involved in dairying as an essential means of livelihood. MooFarm app, downloaded by over 1.8 million farmers, is a dairy farm management application designed for ease of use by dairy farmers in their local language, making procurement of inputs more reliable, and access to veterinary services more convenient, explained Param Singh of MooFarm. It also gives farmers access to relevant dairy farming techniques where they can calculate costs and revenues. He says that the delivery of these services to the last farmer is ensured by Moosathi, who is a village level entrepreneur. Livestock is an important source of Indian prosperity and contributes significantly to enriching the rural economy. However, it is sad that the productivity of Indian cattle is less than the global standard. To solve this problem “MooFarm” is trying to bring a change through quality cattle entry, quality feed and veterinary services. Firstly, MooFarm has taken initiative for quality animal entry. Qualified animals are allotted with reliable technology. The productivity of these animals is high which can lead to higher profits for the farmers. Secondly, MooFarm has made efforts to ensure the availability of quality fodder. The animals are provided with a complete diet and nutritious feed, which enhances their health and productivity. Thirdly, MooFarm has increased the use of high-quality veterinary solutions to strengthen veterinary services. Specialist Veterinary Doctors take care of animals in rural areas on a daily basis and provide solutions to their problems. MooFarm is starting a revolution in the dairy world. A revolution that can transform this historic sector of India and open the door to benefits for farmers who have been penniless for hundreds of years.
