KARNAL: On the occasion of the 95th Foundation Day of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Technology Day in New Delhi, a technology developed by the National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) has received the prestigious award for the best technology. Dheer Singh, Director and Vice Chancellor of ICAR-NDRI, accepted the certificate from Kailash Choudhary, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare. The technology, known as PANI-PEC paper strip assay, offers a reliable solution for detecting total bacterial count in milk.
PANI-PEC Paper Strip Assay:
The PANI-PEC paper strip assay technology, developed by a team led by Raghu HV from the Dairy Microbiology Division of NDRI, allows for the accurate detection of the total bacteriological quality of milk at various stages, including the farm level, reception dock, and manufacturing unit. This innovative technology provides a convenient and efficient method for assessing milk quality.
Smart Sensors for Real-time Quality Assessment of Traditional Dairy Products:
During the same event, the Minister also unveiled another groundbreaking technology developed by NDRI, called “Smart Sensors for Real-time Quality Assessment of Traditional Dairy Products.” Created by P.N. Raju and his associates from the Dairy Technology Division, this technology enables consumers and stakeholders to quickly determine the freshness or spoilage of packaged traditional dairy products like khoa, burfi, and sondesh. Notably, this assessment can be performed without opening the packaging, making it highly convenient for users.
Advancements in Technology Commercialization:
Dheer Singh highlighted the significant strides made by NDRI in commercializing their developed technologies. Over the past five years, NDRI has successfully commercialized 42 technologies for the dairy industry. This achievement demonstrates the institute’s commitment to transforming cutting-edge research into practical solutions that benefit both the dairy sector and consumers.
Conclusion:
The recognition of NDRI’s PANI-PEC paper strip assay technology as the best technology on ICAR’s 95th Foundation Day signifies the institute’s dedication to innovative advancements in the dairy industry. The development of these technologies not only enhances milk quality assessment but also contributes to the overall growth and success of the dairy sector. NDRI continues to play a crucial role in bridging the gap between research and industry, promoting sustainable and efficient dairy practices in India.
