Months after gallon-sized packs of Amul Gold milk hit the shelves at Costco Wholesale in the US, excitement remains high. Now, a viral photo has further fueled enthusiasm, showcasing Amul milk bottles prominently displayed at a Costco store. Shared by an Indian-origin entrepreneur on social media, the image from a Costco outlet in Austin underscores the increasing availability of Indian products in global markets and Amul’s expanding international footprint.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he captioned, “Amul in Costco. The takeover is near.” According to the photo attached, the 1-gallon bottles of Amul Gold (6% fat milk) cost $6.49 (Rs 560) each.
The post swiftly caught the attention of social media users, racking up over 3 lakh views and sparking a flood of reactions from X users. The comments section quickly became active, with many questioning the source of the milk while others were curious about its fat content. Some users also expressed their wish to see Amul Cheese making its way into the US market.
“Haha. Saw that last week. Was twice the price of regular milk,” read a comment.
A user asked, “Are Americans buying it, or is it being stocked for Indians craving a taste of home? Like Kurkure & Maggi!”
“I’ll be happy if I see Amul cheese,” an individual wrote.
An account remarked, “Supply is sporadic…flies off the shelves. At 6% butterfat, everyone wants them… not just Desis.”
“Is the milk ‘Made in USA’ or ‘Made in India’ and exported to the USA? The former means just branding, but the latter is dairy exports from India, which is crazy,” questioned someone.
An individual shared, “I got it today from Costco.”
In October 2024, Amul began supplying Amul Gold packs to Costco stores, marking the brand’s entry into the US mainstream retail market. This expansion followed the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) forming a partnership with the Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA) in April 2024, further solidifying Amul’s presence in the US.
Managing director of GCMMF, Jayen Mehta, said, “Recipe will be ours. Within one week, Amul Taaza, Amul Gold, Amul Shakti, and Amul Slim n Trim will be available in the US market,” as reported the Hindustan Times.
