Jaipur: The Union ministry of jal shakti has finalised the agreement between Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh on the Modified Parbati-Kalisindh-Chambal (PKC) Link project in a high-level meeting held in Delhi on Wednesday. The PKC is a modified version of the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project. The MoU was finalised during the meeting and is expected to be signed in January 2024. “This link project proposes to provide drinking and industrial water in 13 districts of eastern Rajasthan, Malwa, and Chambal regions of Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, it will provide irrigation on 2.8 lakh ha of land in both states. The Modified PKC Link Project will help in utilizing the available water resources of the Chambal Basin optimally and economically,” said a source. In the meeting, the DPR of the modified PKC link will be finalized by March 2024.

Four companies finalised for Versova to Dahisar MTHL project
The BMC has finalized four companies for implementing Mumbai Coastal Road Project (North), connecting Versova to Dahisar, with a connector to Goregaon-Mulund Link Road. The project is estimated to cost over Rs 16,500 crore without taxes, divided into six packages. APCO Infratech, J Kumar Infraproject in joint venture with NCC, Megha Engineering and Infrastructure, and Larsen and Toubro (L&T) have been selected for different packages. Work on this stretch will begin before next year’s monsoon. Currently, work is underway on the Coastal Road stretch between Marine Drive and Worli end of Bandra-Worli Sea Link.

Workshop entitled ‘Genetically modified (GM) Crops and their derivatives for the livestock sector’ at NDRI
A workshop on genetically modified (GM) crops and their derivatives for the livestock sector was conducted at ICAR- National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal. The workshop focused on the significance of GM derived feeds or feed ingredients in improving productivity and profitability in the dairy sector. It emphasized the need for technological interventions and feeding strategies to ensure the sustainability of the dairy sector. The workshop also highlighted the importance of conducting long-term studies before introducing GM origin feed ingredients in the Indian dairy sector. Various experts discussed issues, challenges, and ongoing schemes related to animal feed requirement in India. They also emphasized the potential of GM crops in overcoming the shortage of animal feed ingredients and its impact on livelihoods. The workshop concluded with panel discussions on the usages of GM crop origin feed ingredients.

HC modifies sentence of man who killed live-in partner for refusing to cook at 2am
A man, VP Ravi, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the high court for the murder of his live-in partner, Kamala. The incident occurred when Kamala refused to cook food for him at 2am. The court found that Ravi severely assaulted Kamala, causing 21 injuries, and then strangled her. The session court judge had previously acquitted Ravi of the murder charge, but the high court overturned this decision, stating that the evidence clearly indicated Ravi’s intention to murder Kamala.
