NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated several dairy product factories as he participated in the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
In his address, PM Modi highlighted the growth of the initiative started by villagers in Gujarat 50 years ago, likening it to a seed growing into a robust banyan tree. He congratulated all individuals associated with the movement and acknowledged the role of milch animals in its success.
Highlighting that women form the backbone of the dairy sector, PM Modi emphasized the significance of strengthening the financial situation of every woman in India to propel the nation towards development. He highlighted that the government is actively working to empower women financially, citing the provision of assistance exceeding Rs 30 lakh crore to approximately 70 percent of women under the Mudra Yojana.

He highlighted the extensive efforts being made to support farmers, citing the construction of over 60,000 Amrit Sarovars nationwide. PM Modi further underscored that this initiative is designed not only to benefit farmers but also to bolster the rural economy.
Expressing appreciation for Amul, PM Modi said, “After India’s independence, several brands emerged in the country. However, there is no brand like Amul, which has become synonymous with trust, development, public participation, farmer empowerment, and inspiration for Aatmanirbhar Bharat.”
In his address, PM Modi highlighted that India’s dairy sector is growing at 6 per cent per annum, outpacing the global dairy sector which is developing at 2 per cent per annum.
Giving Amul the target to become the largest dairy company in the world, PM Modi said, “Today Amul (GCMMF) is the eight largest dairy company in the world, your target is to make it number one, the government will give all its support. This is Modi’s guarantee,”
Over the past two decades, the number of milk corporations in Gujarat has increased from 12 to 23. The dairy industry has engaged more than 36 lakh people, including 11 lakh women, with 3,300 milk houses run entirely by women.
PM Modi received gifts as part of the celebrations at Narendra Modi Stadium, with chief minister Bhupendra Patel also in attendance. The event featured cultural programs with significant farmer participation from various parts of the state.
During his visit to Gujarat, PM Modi will also unveil development projects worth more than Rs 22,850 crore, spanning crucial sectors such as road, rail, energy, health, internet connectivity, urban development, water supply, and tourism across 15 districts. This includes the foundation stone laying and inauguration of projects valued at over Rs 5,040 crore for Surat Municipal Corporation, Surat Urban Development Authority, and Dream City.
PM Modi will also unveil 50 electric buses, costing Rs 840 crore and components of the Tapi Purification Project along with projects of DREAM City Limited, costing Rs 597 crore and Rs 49 crore, respectively.
