Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate or dedicate projects worth Rs 79,517 crore on his one-day visit to Gujarat on Thursday, when he will also participate in the golden jubilee celebrations of the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), owner of Amul (Anand Milk Union Limited), at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad.
At the celebrations, he will inaugurate multiple projects worth Rs 3,000 crore, including an icecream factory at Sarhad Dairy in Kutch, a tetra pack milk processing plant at Anand and a Bharuch dairy branch in Mumbai.
From Ahmedabad, he will go to Mehsana where he will attend the consecration ceremony of Valinath temple and dedicate or lay foundation stones of projects worth Rs 13,000 crore.
Following this, he will travel to Navsari and dedicate and inaugurate projects worth Rs 44,000 crore. Finally, he will visit the Kakrapar Atomic Power Plant and dedicate projects worth Rs 22,517 crore.
GCMMF’s managing director Jayen Mehta said, “Our 36 lakh dairy farmers, who make up our company that produces 300 lakh litre of milk every day, the women who work with us… get over Rs 200 crore in their bank accounts every day, and that is how the company has completed 50 years today.”
“The company was established in 1973, and since then, it has worked to develop products for the market along with providing the right price to the dairy farmers,” he added.
“If any customer purchases an Amul product worth Rs 100, then 85 per cent of that reaches the farmer’s pockets. This is a record in the world, even in developed countries farmers get only a third of what the consumer spends on a product,” Mehta said.
More than 1.25 lakh dairy farmers, with representatives from around 18,600 villages in Gujarat, will attend the programme at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Thursday. Mehta said 40-45 per cent of the dairy farmers in the audience will be women.
“The Amul chocolate plant with doubled capacity will be inaugurated tomorrow. We are also planning expansion of Mozzarella cheese product, which will be announced tomorrow,” he added.
Apart from Modi, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, Union Animal Husbandry Minister Parshottam Rupala and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will remain present during the golden jubilee celebrations, Mehta said.
