Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu on Monday virtually launched cow induction, giftmilk and market support for the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation initiatives of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) in Rairangpur.
Speaking on the occasion, Murmu said that livestock plays an important role in the rural economy and in the income of rural households. “This initiative would improve the economic status of rural cattle farmers,” Murmu added.
NDDB is facilitating the provision of 3,000 high-quality milch cows to beneficiaries in 26 blocks of Mayurbhanj district under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission. Out of these, 1,000 beneficiaries in the Rairangpur sub-division will receive one cow each.
“These cows are sourced from Gujarat to improve the genetic quality of cattle, enabling dairy farmers to produce more milk and achieve economic growth and better living standards,” a govt statement read.
Murmu also praised the state govt’s cooperation with various central govt schemes aimed at improving cattle wealth.
Chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi joined the programme and highlighted the state’s Kamdhenu scheme for cattle development. “Under this scheme, 70% financial assistance is provided for breeding cross-breed and indigenous cows like Gir and Sahiwal to increase milk production,” he said.
He further said that insurance is provided for cows and buffaloes to offer financial security to farmers, with the state govt covering 85% of the premium. Majhi also discussed various programmes for animal development in the state.
Majhi also spoke about the Prani Kalyan Yojana for helpless and stray cows. He noted that serving cows brings relief from suffering.
