Ludhiana: The main road in Haibowal Dairy Complex is in a deplorable state, with deep potholes and overflowing sewer water constantly filling the road. This crucial road, which connects to the highway in Ladhowal, has been neglected by the authorities, who have shown little urgency in its reconstruction and maintenance. Daily commuters have been urging officials to address this issue promptly to ease their travel.
Due to the potholes, four-wheelers frequently get stuck, and walking on the road is difficult. Thousands of vehicles use this road daily, which links Hambran Road to Ladhowal.
This issue is not new to the dairy complex. Commuters have been facing this for several years. However, in the last few months, the problems have increased significantly.
A few years ago, officials from the public works department (PWD) constructed this road under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. The late MLA Gurpreet Gogi had begun coordinating with the concerned officers to reconstruct the road. However, since his passing, the officials have remained silent on this matter.
According to experts, there are two main reasons for the poor condition of this road in the dairy complex. The first reason is that dung from the dairy owners’ animals is entering the sewer system. This causes blockages, leading to water overflow and accumulation on the road, which shortens its lifespan.
The second reason is the movement of heavy vehicles. Trucks filled with sand from the Satluj river pass through this road, and it cannot bear the weight of these heavy tippers.
MC executive engineer Balwinder Singh acknowledged the inconvenience caused to the public by the poor condition of the road. However, he said that the responsibility for its construction lies with PWD officials.
On the other hand, PWD officials denied having any information about the work being done on the road. A senior official said he would need to check with the officers concerned to determine if any progress is being made on this road.
