Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah inaugurated 10,000 newly established Multipurpose Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (MPACS), along with Dairy and Fisheries Cooperative Societies.
Addressing the gathering, Shah said, “We have set a target of creating 2 lakh Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) in five years… It will not take 5 years, we will establish 2 lakh PACS before that. We have established 10,000 PACS in the last three months.”
Sharing the details, Shah said that NABARD will establish 22,750 PACS in the first phase and 47,250 in the second.
Similarly, the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) will establish 56,500 new societies while strengthening 46,500 existing ones, and the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) will create 6,000 new fisheries cooperative societies while empowering 5,500 existing ones, he said.
Additionally, state cooperative departments will contribute by forming 25,000 PACS, he said.
Shah highlighted that, to date, 11,695 new primary cooperative societies have been registered under the new model bylaws, marking a significant milestone.
He emphasised that once the target of 2 lakh PACS is achieved, it will greatly facilitate the seamless integration of farmers’ produce into global markets through robust forward and backward linkages.
Most of the new PACS have been established in Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.
On this occasion, Shah also distributed the RuPay Kisan Credit Cards and Micro-ATMs to 10 cooperative societies, marking a key step towards empowering farmers.
He stated that every primary dairy will soon be equipped with a micro-ATM as part of the ongoing campaign.
Addressing the gathering, Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh praised initiatives taken by Shah in the cooperative sector.
“Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has worked towards making the cooperative sector free from the clutches of alleged mafia and bring it to the common people,” said Singh.
