PATNA: The Bihar State Milk Co-operative Federation Ltd (COMFED) is expanding its reach by introducing its milk and milk products under the brand name ‘Sudha’ in the north-eastern region, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Delhi. As part of expansion, Sudha milk booths will be set up in the Delhi Metro and Delhi airport.
At the 102nd board meeting on Friday, it was revealed that COMFED has improved its position in nationwide milk procurement, climbing from ninth to sixth place.
Noting that the COMFED collects over 25 lakh liters of milk per day, the board emphasized the importance of increasing the number of women dairy cooperatives, which currently stands at 4,568. Recognizing the impact of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) on cattle owners’ livelihoods, the board directed the swift initiation of FPOs as part of their overall strategy.
N VijayaLakshmi, principal secretary of the state animal & fish resources department and chairperson of COMFED, highlighted the state government’s support through programmes like Sat Nischy-2 and Krishi Road Map.
The board approved COMFED’s membership in the National Cooperative Export Limited, enabling the export of their dairy products. Additionally, they gave the go-ahead for the construction and operation of a student dairy plant with a capacity of 1 lakh litres. This plant will serve as a training facility for students of the Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Dairy Technology.
