Gurgaon: A 46-year-old engineer died, a woman was injured, and a cow died when a speeding private bus lost control and crashed into a dairy wall in Sector 4 on Sunday morning. The bus driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle, cops said.
The engineer, Shiv Kumar was riding his scooter at 7am to buy milk when the bus rammed into him. The bus was traveling from Gurgaon Railway Station toward Dayanand Colony when it veered off the road, hitting Kumar’s scooter, mowing down a cow tied outside the dairy, and crashing into its wall, said Sector 5 Inspector Sukhbir.
“The bus struck the scooter before ramming into the dairy,” the inspector added.
Kumar, a resident of Dayanand Colony, was declared dead at a nearby hospital. Originally from Faizpur village in UP’s Bijnor district, Kumar had moved to Gurgaon with his family in 2000 and worked at an automobile spare parts company in Manesar.
Police said his body was shifted to the morgue, and a case was registered against the bus driver for causing death due to negligence and rash driving under BNS sections 106 (causing death due to negligence) and 281 (rash driving on a public way).
Additionally, Suman —a woman from the same colony who was also at the dairy— sustained minor injuries in the crash. Abhimanyu, the dairy owner, said, “I was selling milk when the bus suddenly came toward the dairy, crashed into our wall, and killed a customer and my cow.”
Police have seized the bus, which had no passengers at the time of the incident. “We are identifying the driver and owner of the vehicle. The accused will be arrested soon,” Inspector Sukhbir added.
