Union Fisheries Minister Parshottam Rupala will inaugurate the two-day Global Fisheries Conference India 2023 in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
Under the theme ‘Celebrating Fisheries and Aquaculture Wealth’, the conference aims to bring together key stakeholders on one platform for fruitful discussions, market insights and networking and serve as a platform to forge partnerships with national and international stakeholders and chalk out a roadmap for sustainable growth of India’s fisheries sector.
The conference – being organised by the Union fisheries, animal husbandry and dairy department – will see fishery ministers, ambassadors, scientists, policy-makers, fishery communities and investment bankers come together on November 21 and 22 to mark World Fisheries Day, which falls on Tuesday.
At the event, Rupala will lead the International Round Table Meet, to be attended by ambassadors of different nations and representatives of international agencies, focussing on collaborative efforts to sustain the sector amid challenges, including climate crisis, stated an official statement issued by the government.
Delegations from more than 10 countries, including France, Norway, Australia, Russia, Brazil, Greece, Spain, New Zealand and Zimbabwe, have confirmed they will physically participate in the conference. In addition, more than 50 other foreign diplomats are anticipated to join the meet virtually.

Similarly, representatives from around 10 international organisations, including Natural Resources and Agriculture Specialist of Asian Development Bank and India Head of Food and Agriculture Organisation of the UN, will also attend the conference, the statement said.
At the event, ‘Industry Connect’ will be organised to engage industry stakeholders with others, including policy-makers, to deliberate on issues like start-up ecosystem; cooperation and collaboration in the fisheries sector; technology and knowledge transfer as well as capacity building, among others.
The event is anticipated to attract 5,000 visitors, including farmers, vendors, representatives of cooperatives, and start-ups.
