
22 April 2025, New Delhi: Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, called on the agri research and input industry to actively contribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India. Speaking at the convocation ceremony of the National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) in Karnal, Haryana, Chouhan emphasized the need for innovation, collaboration, and rural development initiatives that directly benefit farmers.
The Minister highlighted India’s unique heritage, stating, “India is an ancient and great nation. I’ve been to many countries, but what we have here, no one else does.” He added that the goal of building a developed India requires a collective effort—”a prosperous, empowered, and self-reliant Bharat.”
Addressing graduating students, Mr. Chouhan urged them to convert their academic knowledge into meaningful action. “Education is not just about knowledge, but also about developing skills and becoming responsible citizens. Today is not just about receiving a certificate—it’s about taking a pledge to serve the nation through your actions,” he said.
He encouraged students to think of innovative solutions for agriculture and rural development and share those ideas widely. “Come up with ideas that bring real change—share them, act on them,” he said, invoking Swami Vivekananda’s spirit of dedication to national service.
The Minister recently visited Brazil to study modern farming practices, expressed confidence in India’s potential to lead the global dairy sector. He emphasized that NDRI and institutions like it must collaborate with the agri-input sector to ensure Indian dairy products reach global markets. “India is number one in milk production, and our products must be present in every home across the world,” he said.
Calling for on-ground impact, Chouhan encouraged NDRI to adopt a village for focused innovation. He also spoke about the government’s ‘Lakhpati Didi’ initiative aimed at empowering 3 crore rural women, and the ‘Poverty-Free Village Campaign’, both of which create opportunities for engagement by the agri-input industry in rural development.
He concluded by urging all stakeholders—scientists, institutions, and the private sector—to work in synergy. “Together, we can make India number one—not just in agriculture, but in self-sufficiency, prosperity, and innovation.”
