Union minister Parshottam Rupala visited Purabi Dairy plant in Guwahati on August 17 and took stock of the dairy development activities taken forward by the West Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Ltd.
The fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying minister reviewed the status of activities currently being done by WAMUL, besides discussing the future plans. The minister was apprised about the progress made by WAMUL under the management leadership of NDDB. He appreciated the efforts put in by NDDB and the milk union.
During the presentation made by managing director, WAMUL, the minister emphasized on fodder and silage making activities and utilization of paddy straw. He further said that activities such as manure management and beekeeping are playing important roles in enhancing the livelihood of dairy farmers through additional economic benefits. He suggested expediting procurement of slurry from the biogas project beneficiaries.
During the review meeting, the minister was apprised about the commissioning works of Purabi Dairy expansion project of WAMUL under APART. The minister also reviewed the current status of implementation of Assam Dairy Development Plan (ADDP) to be implemented by the newly formed joint venture – North East Dairy and Foods Limited.
