BAREILLY: A 47-year-old man has been awarded life imprisonment along with a Rs 50,000 fine by a fast-track Pocso court for raping his minor daughter for five years in Uttar Pradesh‘s Rampur district.
The accused had also forced his daughter to undergo abortion. He was arrested by police on July 21, 2020, after the girl (aged 20 at the time of registering the FIR in 2020) informed the cops about the repeated assault since 2016 when she was a minor. The accused was lodged in Rampur jail once the case was registered against him.
The survivor and her two brothers lived with their father and stepmother, who owned a dairy farm in a village in Rampur. Their mother had died when the girl was five years old, after which their father remarried. The accused often thrashed all three children and the eldest brother often sought refuge by working at a neighboring farm. None of the children were ever sent to school by the accused.
Senior prosecuting officer (SPO) SP Pandey said, “The survivor had lodged a complaint earlier that her father often used to inappropriately touch her and forced her to sleep with him. An FIR was registered under section 354 (attempt to outrage the modesty of a woman). However, after investigation and on the basis of the medico-legal examination report, police found that the victim was raped when she was young. Thereafter, a chargesheet was filed in the court under section 376 (rape) against the accused father.”
He added, “The accused said that he was innocent and he has been framed by the victim. On the basis of evidence provided by prosecuting counsel and the statements of the witness, the court adjudged him guilty and awarded him life imprisonment. The court said that it was the duty of the father to take care of the daughter but sexually assaulting his own daughter has tarnished the pure relationship of a father and a daughter.”
