MOHALI: Heavy rains have caused shortage of milk, including popular items like dahi and paneer, in Zirakpur.
The situation is likely to persist until farmers and their cattle are resettled. Mostly, Zirakpur and Mohali milk needs are met by Verka.
Local resident Sanjeev said, “For the past two days, milk has been unavailable. Other dairy products are still not accessible.” Due to the absence of milkmen, residents have been compelled to purchase packaged milk from the limited number of open shops, further contributing to the shortage.
“After three days, we received milk, but the availability of other dairy products remains uncertain. The price of box of ghee, which was previously around Rs 600, has now surged to Rs 670,” said Mohali resident Manjeev Sethi.
Verka GM said, “There has been supply, but it is delayed due to flooding. There is a labour shortage, and milk is supplied from remote locations where people are in poor conditions. In addition, the two days’ 16 to 17-hour power cuts made it hard to deliver milk on time and caused a delay.
