
The three-day conference, themed “Indian Dairying – Global Growth, Local Strength”, has brought together policymakers, industry leaders, dairy cooperatives, dairy farmers, and experts to discuss the future of the Indian dairy sector.
The 51st Dairy Industry Conference (DIC), organized by the Indian Dairy Association (IDA), was inaugurated today in Patna, Bihar. The three-day conference, themed “Indian Dairying – Global Growth, Local Strength,” has brought together policymakers, industry leaders, dairy cooperatives, farmers, and experts to discuss the future of the Indian dairy sector. It is considered the biggest event of Indian dairy industry.
Addressing the inaugural session, Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, emphasized the need to eradicate Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) to improve dairy exports and strengthen milk collection by the organized sector, ensuring better financial returns for farmers. He said that a review had been conducted, and nine states have been identified; soon, these states will be declared FMD-free. He added, “We will strive to increase milk production in the country by making India FMD-free.”
Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel, Minister of State, FAH&D, highlighted the significance of the dairy sector in India’s economy and the contribution of farmers in strengthening the industry. He underscored the importance of Artificial Insemination (AI) and sex-sorted semen technology in improving indigenous cattle productivity and increasing the population of high-yielding cows.
Alka Upadhyaya, Secretary, DAHD, GoI, addressed the event, highlighting the significance of sustainable dairy practices, technological advancements, and policies aimed at supporting dairy farmers. She recognized IDA’s role in engaging dairy sector stakeholders and emphasized the need for productivity enhancement through genetic advancements in indigenous breeds.
Dr. N. Vijaya Lakshmi, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Bihar, shared insights on Bihar’s dairy development, particularly COMFED’s expansion strategy, which includes exploring international markets for dairy exports. NDDB Chairman Dr. Meenesh Shah underscored NDDB’s role in strengthening cooperative dairy structures at the village level to empower farmers and drive sustainable growth.
IDA President Dr. R.S. Sodhi reflected on India’s remarkable dairy journey, stressing the need for continued government support to sustain sectoral growth. Other distinguished dignitaries, including Varsha Joshi, Additional Secretary (CDD/IT), DAHD, Government of India and Dr. Dheer Singh, Director, NDRI, shared their insights.
The conference also celebrated excellence in the dairy industry by honoring leaders, scientists, and professionals who have made outstanding contributions to India’s dairy sector. Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh and Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel presented the prestigious awards.
Dr. Kurien Award was conferred upon Dr. R.P. Aneja for his exceptional contributions to the dairy industry and his role in shaping India’s dairy growth.
Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Dr. J.S. Punjrath in recognition of his lifelong dedication and outstanding leadership in the dairy sector.
Other prestigious awards, including the Prof. M.R. Srinivasan Award, Patron Awards, Fellowships, and Best Women Farmers Awards, were also presented to recognize excellence and innovation in the dairy sector.
The three-day conference will feature technical sessions and panel discussions on dairy technology, market trends, and sustainability. An exhibition will showcase advancements in dairy processing, production, and supply chain management. Additionally, networking opportunities will allow farmers, industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers to exchange ideas and explore potential collaborations.
The event, organized with active participation from the IDA East Zone and Bihar State Chapter, is expected to be a significant milestone in shaping the future of India’s dairy industry by fostering innovation and creating new growth opportunities.
